So, where are you?
If someone asked, you’d probably say something like “Street, City, State, Country.” Cool. But what if an alien asked? You think they know what a “state” is?
Let’s zoom out. Way out.
Your real address—your cosmic address—goes something like this:
Number, street, city, state, Country, Planet Earth, Solar System, Oort Cloud, Local Interstellar Cloud, Local Cavity, Orion Arm, Milky Way, Local Group, Virgo Supercluster, Laniakea Supercluster, the Universe.
Yeah. You live there. Kinda wild, right?
Now, back on Earth, location matters—a lot. If you’re off by even a few meters, you could be in the wrong backyard! That’s why we use coordinates: latitude and longitude. They’re like Earth’s version of a cosmic GPS.
If you’re into astronomy or stargazing, knowing how to read those coordinates is super important. They help you record where you are when you spot something cool in the sky—like a comet, a meteor shower, or that one star you love to stare at.
So next time someone asks where you’re from, maybe say:
“I’m from Earth. But I’ve got the full cosmic address if you need it.”
